A Word From the Pastor
Dearly Beloved,
6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
~Col. 2:6-7; 4:2-6
When we were converted to Christ by faith, we were given new life, forgiveness of sins, His righteousness, and joined to His family. God calls us to continue to live in Christ each day of our lives after our salvation. Our faith in Christ is not only the source of our salvation but it is the source of our daily spiritual sustenance and growth. We are to let our spiritual roots burrow deep into Christ. We are to be built up in Christ, letting His character and values and power and priorities be formed in our lives. The spiritual roots in our lives must go deep into the person of Christ for that to happen. We must spend tie with Him in His Word and in prayer and worship. We must become familiar with what matters to Him, what moves His heart, how He treats people, and how He makes decisions. As we become rooted and built up in Him, our faith is strengthened. We need to sit under solid Biblical teaching and meditate on it and seek to apply it to our relationship with Christ and our relationship with others.
Seeking Christ and His Word as our daily source of life, strength, and guidance will insure our spiritual growth and protect us from hollow and deceptive philosophies.
Kathy has placed a picture of our church strategy and mission statement below. Col. 4:2-6 explains what the first part of our strategy depicts: 1) praying to God that we, as believers, could be used by Him to influence others, including the lost, to know Christ (2-4); 2) that we would be wise in our relationship with outsiders, that we would be kind to them, and seek ways to care for them (5); and look for open doors to share clearly the good news of Christ with them (3-4, 6).
What outsiders are you praying for? (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers)
How is God showing you how to wisely care for them?
What open doors has He given you to share Jesus with them?
Often, sharing Jesus is a natural outcome of living out praying and caring for the outsiders in our lives.
Shepherding you in Christ's love,
Lance
Remember
Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad,
But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad
Always remember to forget
The friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.
Always remember to forget
The troubles that passed away, But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day.

BUNCO Night!
BUNCO night #2 was held on June 22! There was approximately 23 in attendance. There were lots of food, prizes and fun! We played two full games!
The next game night is tentatively planned for September (taking a summer break). Be thinking ahead of who to invite and how you can help market the event to not only encourage FBC congregation attendance, but also others from the community as a fun pre-evangelism effort.
Thank you to all who helped to make this event a success!
Women Unite!
The Women met on June 5th for our monthly get-together. Roma Careaga explained the Wordless Book that has been used with the Good News Club. She had us create bracelets that corresponded with the colors of the Wordless Book. She shared some information about her helping with the Good News Club. Shirley brought Root Beer floats! Sally provided prizes!
The Monthly Women's Group meets the first Monday of every month. However there was no meeting in July due to Independence Day. We hope to see you in August when Kathy will lead a devotional discussion on God signs!
Women of all ages are invited to meet at 6:30PM in the FBC Fellowship Hall for fun, fellowship, prayer, etc. New activity each month. Bring a friend!
Women's Bible Study - The Faithful - Heroes of the Old Testament
The 5 week Bible study is winding down. An average of 13 women have attended. This study used excerpts from incredible best-selling studies by Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, Lisa Harper, Kelly Minter, and Jennifer Rothschild exploring crucial moments in the lives of five Old Testament figures.
Thank you to Jolene for hosting/leading this study. It was yet another great opportunity for women to join together to bond in the study of God's Word..
Father's Day
During church service, father were honored and cookies (Jolene Zagaris) were given out to all fathers in attendance.

Dominic Bunting
Dominic shared with us about his experience in Cambodia through Discipleship training with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) – their mission statement is to know God and make Him known. He explained that he spent 3 months training and learning more about different characteristics of God. Eleven different topics spoken each week by different people. This taught him more in depth about God and how to share their faith and how to apply it to the mission field.
Two of the classes that stood out to him were Father Heart of God and how it opened his eyes to see God as father and his love for His children, and Evangelism week. It helped him to grow confidence and grow his faith and to be able to share the gospel. It gave him a fire in his heart to want to go talk to people.
Dominic and his team were able to go to different villages and speak life into a lot of people and share the good news to as many people as they could. They primarily did kids ministry, playing soccer, pray for them, share testimonies, or do bible teaching. They were also able to work with kids at risk and do church planting in various villages with bible studies and sharing testimonies. They were invited to Cambodia Christian Church, which is the longest living church in Cambodia, to spend a few Sundays with and celebrate 100 years of the gospel. Then they went to New Hope school, did English teaching, shared testimony and did the Easter Service for them. After the service over 25 kids gave their life to Jesus! He and his team went to a dorm ministry, which houses girls that go to school but live far away. They were able to do bible teaching, English teaching and just show them love. They also went to a village not far away and did some kids ministry. There he and a few others got to go out and evangelize, going to different houses and talk with them about God. They also held that village’s first VBS. They had no idea how many people would show up. They thought maybe 15 or 20 kids, but they had over 50 showed up! Over 40 kids raised their hands and prayed to give their life to Jesus.
They went to a Nations-to-Nations Conference and it was an eye opening experience… 14 different YWAM teams consisted of people from 16 different nations and 20 people groups. They evangelized that entire week and gave tickets to a cultural conference they held. At the conference they sang, danced, and shared the gospel and were able to go through the crowd and talk about Jesus. He and his team learned 2 dances and got to perform in front of everybody.
Statistically they ministered to over 1000 people and distributed over 900 bibles. Over 80 + people gave their life to Jesus. He saw 6 healings and many miracles. It opened his eyes to how God has a heart for people all over the world.
What’s next? Dominic explained that he feels called to make a 2-year commitment to a Montana based DTS (Discipleship Training School) Mobilization… working and raising money to go in September. He expressed that his YWAM experience was amazing… he grew closer to God and gained confidence in his faith and he just wants to tell everyone about Jesus and see more people give their lives to Jesus!
Dominic thanked everyone for support and prayers… not possible without them.
Note from Stanton Health Care - Baby Bottle Drive
I pray you are doing well. We’re excited to share the results of your Baby Bottle Drive. Your church family raised ….. $850.90 !! (Another $20.52 from FBC was given after the count for a total of $871.21)
… to create a community of HOPE for women facing unexpected pregnancies, save babies from abortion, and give their families the opportunity to know LIFE in Christ. THANK YOU!
Overall, more than $260,000 has been raised by 70 churches in the Treasure Valley and beyond. We stand amazed and grateful for all God has done, and for your partnership with us to spread awareness of Stanton for families who need us.
We would love for you to mark your calendar for next year’s Spring Baby Bottle Drive to continue helping women and families. With abortion virtually banned in Idaho, women are still pressured to seek abortions out of state or through mail-order abortion pills. Your partnership is needed more than ever – as Stanton is now busier than ever.
2024 STANTON SPRING BABY BOTTLE DRIVE: KICK-OFF IS APR 27 & 28 … ending MAY 18 & 19.
Thank you and God bless you!

Director of Community OutreachFlane Walker - God Hears You
Flane Walker has been a member of Emmett First Baptist (FBC) since May 2, 2021. He came to FBC because he agreed more with the doctrine. Connie, Flane’s wife of 51 years, and he attended Bible College together (in fact that is where they met). Therefore, the two of them are in alignment on how they believe and when Connie rode to work with Jolene Zagaris, Connie found that her and Flane were on board with the doctrine at FBC.
Flane came to know the Lord when he was 17 years old and was baptized at the Four-Square church in Emmett. He started going to that church because there were some girls he wanted to meet that were attending that church. While they were nice girls, he didn’t pursue the girls, but pursued the Lord instead. 😊
Flane was born in Prairie City, Oregon and lived there for 1 year. His dad was a mechanic, and they moved every 4 or 5 years. At one point, Flane attended 5 different schools in a one-year period. When his dad was hurt in a construction accident and broke his back, they moved back to his hometown of Emmett/Sweet.
Flane shared that his mom was an incredible cook and he likes to cook as well… mostly meat dishes, but he wants to get some of his mom’s recipes.
Flane had 6 sisters and one brother who died at 3 months (Alton). Two of his sisters are dedicated Christians. One of which was his sister Brydine, who was 12 years older than him. She had the biggest influence on him. When Flane was about 8 years old, their mom and dad were having some issues, so they sent Flane and his sister to live with the older siblings. Flane was sent to Brydine’s. She took care of him and helped him through school. He had no sense of danger, and she would follow him around like crazy. He would go to tide pools to see what he could see and reach for the octopus or shark, and she would say, “don’t touch it!” Flane stayed with Brydine, off and on from age 8 through 14. She would tell him that he was extremely smart. Which he doesn’t agree because he doesn’t like math or English! Brydine told Flane that he was like Seymore Cray, a highly intelligent computer guru who was a friend, boss and role model of Flane’s. Flane claims that he, like Seymore, had difficulty with communication but he is getting better, thanks to his grandchildren. Flane explained that his grandchildren are brilliant… but he believes they got their brilliance from Connie.
Flane has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and he retired from a career as a Computer Systems Engineer. His breath of computer knowledge was broad, and he knows 56 different computer languages. He worked for various organizations including Data General, Hewlett Packard and the Veteran’s Administration. He retired from the VA at the age of 69, but he still does some consulting.
When you talk to Flane it doesn’t take long to recognize his passions: Guitars, Martial Arts, God and family/grandkids. After meeting Connie in Bible College, they had 4 Children, and raised his children to know the Lord and to know Martial Arts.
Flane owns 36 different guitars and he plays them all! He explained that they each have their own sound so his choice of which one to play depends on the song or maybe the genre. Flane plays just about any type of music…old rock & roll, classical, country-western, etc. When asked about things he liked about FBC, he said it was playing the guitar with the Worship Team. Due to some health issues, he hasn’t been able to play much but hopes to get back into it soon.
Flane is also passionate about martial arts. He was recently promoted to 9th degree Black Belt, which is a high as you can go! He began doing Martial Arts with his dad at 5 years old. Flane is an instructor and teaches many different styles of Martial Arts throughout the world. However, he will generally practice 2 arts: Dragon’s Fist and Wonhop loong chuan, which is one of the oldest arts in the world.
While teaching Martial Arts is a passion, it is also an opportunity to teach Christianity. Flane has trained up many black belt level individuals of which his philosophy is to teach Christ first. Fifty-eight of Flane’s students are black belts. All but one of them, he has led to the Lord! One example, Leslie Mckenzie Graham, a Scottish lady, his highest blackbelt is a very devout Christian. While Flane was teaching her, he started talking about the history of Martial Arts… he explained that at one time, Israel had their own Martial Arts, called AI (pronounced AHH-EEE). The person who taught Joshua was a crown prince of Egypt. His name Moses. Martial Arts may have been used to kill the Egyptian (ref.Exodus 2:11-12). God enabled all those people to do Martial Arts just like he enabled Flane. Flane explained that it is by example that he has been able to lead his students to Christ. He prays before and during a fight. He has fought people that were better than him, people 6’8, and 6”6! He had no business being on the mat with them, and yet he beat them! He has schools all over the world... Italy, Hawaii, Texas, etc.; his main studio being in Texas. He keeps in touch with the students and informs them of how close we are to the end times. One of these students, a close friend, in Hawaii, recently passed away, knowing Christ. Flane looks forward to seeing him again one day. Flane further explained how he has fought many fights and won many tournaments, but that really means nothing to him.
People have referred to Flane as an ‘incredible Grandmaster’ of Martial Arts and that no one has taken a student down the road further than him. At 6’3” tall he could bench 500 lbs 2 times (his goal was to be able to go 3 times). Due to his expertise in Martial Arts, Flane has associated with many well-known Martial Arts celebrities including Steve McQueen, Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee. He even fought Bruce Lee and he and Bruce were friends and would work out together. But Flane explained all that means nothing, and he still does it wrong and has to work on it… that we are all on a path...where it goes, we don’t know, we never reach the end. If you ask God for guidance, and listen, He will answer. Prior to going to teach a seminar, he asks God for help, and He is always there.
Flane had lots of opportunities to be in movies, but he determined it was not meant to be as those opportunities would seem to dissolve before his eyes. While Flane never pursued the big screen, he has authored 14 books pertaining to Martial Arts. These can be found on Amazon, under ‘A. Flane Walker’ or ‘A.F. Walker’.
When Flane was attending Bible College, many people did not understand Martial Arts and called Flane “demon-possessed”. Flane would comment, “how can a man who is spirit filled and fully believe in the blood of Jesus Christ also be demon filled?” Many students wouldn’t talk to him. Connie saw how Flane handles things and told people.
Another person who was influential in Flane’s walk with the Lord was a teacher in life Bible College by the name of brother Hackett. Brother Hackett was at a church camp Flane went to which is how he ended up going to Bible College. Brother Hackett also stood up for Flane and defended him when his Martial Arts was in question.
Flane explained that 99% of us do not understand Martial Arts. He further explained that Martial Arts can be traced back to Egypt and that the book, ‘Ancient Book of Jasher’, depicts some of the history of and moves of Martial Arts. The book of Jasher is referenced in the Bible (Joshua 10:13 & 2 Samual 1:18).
Martial Arts is not about fighting…its about being able to not fight – being confident and have the ability to not fight. No such thing as ‘mixed’ martial arts (mixing Judo and Jujitsu, and even boxing).
Flane commented that he and God have daily conversations and that everything he is and hopes for attribute to God’s guidance.
Flane talked about a couple of “miracles” in his life:
- When working for Data General he would drive from Oregon to Montana routinely. He drove a Ford Escort. One day, going to Council in the winter he hit ice while going down the hill and it put him in the opposite lane. A logging truck was coming straight at him within about 30 feet. He said “Lord” and his car picked up and moved back into his lane and just kept going down the hill. Flane did not even have his hands on the wheel.
- One day while he and Connie were driving to church camp in the mountains, the fog rolled in. It was the thickest fog he’d ever seen. He wasn’t going fast but told Connie, “I am stopping because I don’t know where we are at.” He stopped, went to go to the front of the car and right in front of the car was a 300 foot drop off. He wasn’t even on the road. He backed up and went on the pavement and drove 5 mph.
Flane tries to read the Bible every day and prays all the time. He is on a fixed income and has gone through some health issues, but he knows God is there every moment of every day and hears him. He says, “with times so filled with just plain garbage, that is enough”.
Flane loves the Redwoods. When he was 5 or 6 years old, they went there and it was so amazing. He said, “When I am there, “I’m home”. He explained that before the flood, Redwood trees were everywhere. That is the only place he really feels he is ‘home’. Recently he told God he hopes there are Redwoods in heaven because he wants to feel totally at home. God answered, “I have a forest of them just for you.”
Flane’s passion for the Lord is obvious. People question how he can believe in God, but he declares, “how can you not believe. Just look at the cells that make up a human body and the finite engineering that goes into it. God is just incredible!”
Flane’s favorite scripture reference is in 1 Kings 19 which states:
11The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Thank you to Flane, for taking the time to share his story. I could spend hours talking to him and hearing his thoughts, history and expertise. If I were younger, I may be convinced to pursue Martial Arts myself. 😊 It was a pleasure getting to know more about Flane. He is a very kind and knowledgeable man, and I am grateful he and Connie chose to come to FBC!

Sound of Freedom Movie
On Independence Day (Tuesday, July 4), Angel Studios is releasing the film “Sound of Freedom,” which is based on an incredible, true story about the fight against human trafficking.
“Sound of Freedom” stars Jim Caviezel (“The Passion of the Christ”) as Tim Ballard, a United States federal agent who quits his job to find the sister of a young boy he rescued from child traffickers.
Caviezel’s character decides to leave his family at the urging of his wife—played by Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino—to traverse the depths of the child sex trafficking world in the Columbian jungle in the hope of finding the young girl who was stolen from her family and sold into sex slavery. See official trailer here.
Roy Dransfield told Lance that it will be shown at Frontier Cinema starting July 28.
The film’s reenactment of true events attempts to bring awareness to the $150 billion human trafficking business. It also reminds the church and American citizens of the unfortunate reality that the United States is one of the top destinations for human trafficking and is among the largest consumers of child sex.
Jim Caviezel Says ‘The Passion of the Christ’ Sequel Is Happening
“By the time Ballard left Columbia, he and the team had rescued over 120 victims and arrested more than a dozen traffickers,” the film’s description states, adding that there “are more humans trapped in slavery today any other time in history…including when slavery was legal.” Unfortunately, “millions of these slaves are children.”
During the film, Caviezel’s character is asked why he would risk his life to rescue a child he doesn’t even know. He replies, “Because God’s children are not for sale.”
In a recent interview, Caviezel shared that “The Passion of the Christ” director Mel Gibson wept when he saw the film.
Angel Studios believes the message of “Sound of Freedom” is so important that they don’t want finances to be the reason for anyone to not see the film. Therefore, Angel Studios set up a Pay It Forward program that allows a person to purchase a ticket for someone else who may otherwise not be able to afford one at this time. If you’d like to Pay It Forward for someone, or would like to see the movie for free, see details here.
Zhenya's Story/Steiger Community House in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Loneliness is the #1 felt need of the Global Youth Culture.
That's why an authentic Christian community is a powerful way to reach them! They are drawn to self-sacrificing, genuine communities
.
Read below about how Zhenya became a follower of Jesus because of the friendships and discipleship he experienced at the Steiger Community House in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Zhenya's Story
I was never an atheist. I believed that God was there, but I thought it was definitely not Jesus. I’ve had a busy life - alcohol, lust, betrayal, depression. I had a lot of good things too, but I wasn’t happy. I remember sitting on the air conditioner on the eleventh floor, looking down at the street.
Nothing stopped me from following or searching for God before, I just didn’t want to. I thought that what Christians believed was funny.
Then last July, after a performance in one of the Kyiv cafes, I met a guy named Kolya from the Steiger team. He didn’t smoke, didn’t drink, didn’t use drugs like I did. He became a very good friend of mine, but in the beginning all I knew was that Kolya was a designer and that he lived at the house where I had just performed for a party.
After meeting him and the team, I felt all warm inside and knew I wanted to spend more time with them. Kolya invited me to visit, and I felt accepted as if I was a friend they’d always known. So I began to come more often. I knew they believed in Jesus, but they weren’t what I imagined Christians to be like - hating unbelievers and saying that God would put me in a fiery cauldron.
Even though I was comfortable with them, I still didn’t go to their Bible Study for the Non-Religious or their Sunday Services because I was scared. Then one day, I just decided to go. And I liked it!
When the intense power outages started in Kyiv due to shelling, I asked if I could stay in the house for a while because I had a lot of school work to do and I didn’t have any light at home. While I stayed there, I attended the Bible Study and the Sunday service and dug into the questions, "Is God really there? If He is, who is He?"
I started helping set up events and spending even more time with the team. In that season of my life, this community became a life jacket for me that helped me not to drown.
I prayed and asked God for more signs and answers. And I heard from Him. God would speak to me in different ways and at one point I just felt like I truly believed in Him. I had to repent. It was an event that brought so much joy to me and everyone - as if a baby had been born. I felt like the happiest person on Earth and asked God to walk with me by the hand.
I’m on the Steiger Team now, serving God and learning how to live a new way. I am so thankful to God for this rescue and for the people He has sent me. I have found true friends and a support system. And now I want to give people the light that God gave to me!

25 Ways To Use Mayonnaise
- Alfredo: Craving Alfredo Sauce but out of cream? You can substitute mayonnaise and milk to recreate that creamy texture. It might not taste exactly the same, but it will do in a pinch
- Pancakes: Add 2 to 3 tablespoons to pancake batter to make extra fluffy flapjacks.
- Scrambled Eggs: Whisk 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise into 2 eggs for a silky scramble. Try it out with Scrambled Eggs Done Right.
- Mashed Potatoes: Making mashers with sour cream? Add a little mayo, too.
- Biscuits: You'll need only 3 ingredients to make these Easy Mayonnaise Biscuits, and one of them is obviously mayo.
- Burgers: Sometimes you sacrifice a lot of juiciness when you make burgers using lean ground beef. The solution: Add mayo to the mix and cook as usual.
- Egg Wash: Brush mayo onto your pie crust before baking to fancy up the finish.
- Roast Chicken: Nicole rubs a whole chicken with a mixture of mayo, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, and lemon zest before roasting to a golden brown. You're going to want to try her recipe for Mayo-Roasted Chicken.
- Frosting: Add a dab of mayonnaise to frosting to make it extra creamy.
- Marinades: Mayo in your marinade adds delicious fat and flavor. Try it in this recipe for Crispy Chicken with Soy-Mayo Sauce and with marinated pork chops.
- Grilling: Brushing mayo onto lean proteins like fish and chicken helps keep them from sticking on the grill.
- Grilled Cheese: Grilled cheese lovers adore this trick: Spread the outsides of your grilled cheese sandwich before frying to make the most delectably crispy crust ever.
- Breading: Substitute mayonnaise for egg wash when you're breading meats, chicken, or fish to cut a 3-step process down to 2. Try it with this recipe for Parmesan Crusted Chicken.
- Binder: Mayo is the "glue" that hold together crabcakes and casseroles.
- Ice Cream. No, really. Check it out this recipe for Mayonnaise Ice Cream.
- Chocolate Cake: The eggs and oil in mayonnaise make cakes extra moist. Try this recipe for Chocolate Mayo Cake.
- Get Gum Out of Hair: If you've ever had a child under your care, you might already know this trick. Just rub mayo around the sticky mess and slide out the gum. Disaster averted.
- Hair Conditioner and DIY Lice Remedy: To use as a hair conditioner, massage a cup or so of mayonnaise into dry hair, cover with a shower cap, and leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Note: Using mayonnaise to "suffocate" and remove lice is a folk remedy that isn't effective for removing the eggs they leave behind..
- Remove Price Tags: The oil in mayonnaise helps remove the tag and the sticky residue.
- Cuticle Cream: Rub a bit into your cuticles to moisturize.
- Polish House Plants: Use a soft, dry cloth to rub on a dab of mayo to turn dull leaves shiny.
- Loosen Tight Rings: It's that oil again, this time helping to slide a tight ring off your finger.
- Soothe Sunburns: While mayonnaise won't actually heal your sunburn, it will help it feel better.
- Remove Water Rings: Did "someone" forget to use a coaster under a drink on a wooden surface? Cover the spot with mayonnaise and leave it on for a few hours. Wipe with a clean cloth.
- Remove Crayon Marks: Dampen a cloth and use it to rub mayonnaise onto those mini masterpieces and wipe clean. Sorry, kids.
