A Word From the Pastor
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. ~Hebrews 13:15-16
Dearly Beloved,
In April, 2013, our church was broken into, had items stolen, and was set on fire. Fire damage was limited to the south end of our church, but smoke damage was throughout the building. It took about 1.3 million dollars to repair the building and replace contents. It took over a year to regain the use of the entire church. At the beginning, the task seemed overwhelming. But the LORD guided us and provided for us in ways we could have never imagined!! Yes, He worked through the Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company. And yes, He worked through our contractor, Belfor. But the LORD also blessed us and provided for us in countless ways through individuals, through the American Baptist Church One Great Hour of Sharing, through churches, through Sunday School Classes, through community groups. We received letters with donations from former members... people who had been saved and baptized at Emmett FBC...people in tears over the tragedy. One family donated office space for us for six months. A family in the community donated two buildings for storage for about 12 months. Seventh Day Adventist let us use their church for minimal rent for 6 months. One individual donated a stained glass window.
These are just some of the stories. Ps. 103:1-2 exhorts us to praise the LORD fully from our inmost being and forget none of His benefits! Heb.13:15-16 urges us to continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise and not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased! While we experienced great heartache and hardship from the fire, we also experienced God's blessing through many people who prayed for us and donated to our restoration. Our church was brought up to date on electrical and weatherization and lighting. Our kitchen was enlarged and transformed. Our Fellowship Hall and Educational Wing were brought into the 21st Century with its updated appearance! Our downstairs bathrooms were made handicap accessible. We were able to purchase a new lift that served both downstairs and upstairs.
I am encouraging us to remember God's great faithfulness to us, because our fellow American Baptist Church, New Plymouth FBC experienced a devastating fire on May 15 that appears to be a total loss. They plan to meet May 22 on their property for worship in front of the three crosses. I believe the LORD is giving us an opportunity to model the generosity we experienced in 2013. We can play a part in fulfilling Isaiah 58:11-12: "The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
I encourage each of us to prayerfully consider giving a gift to our church designated for the New Plymouth FBC Rebuild. Give as the LORD guides you. Let it be an expression of sacrifice of praise to the LORD and our sacrifice of sharing with a sister church.
Shepherding you in Jesus' Love!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT - DRAW NEAR TO GOD IN PRAYER
The Prayer Meeting is every Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm until after 8:00 and is open to anyone!
Some of the individuals who attend fairly regularly have the following to say:
Roma Careaga: "I've so enjoyed the Wednesday night prayer meeting. So many prayers have been said for loved ones and various other things. Most of all I have felt closer to the Lord and the others attending. Prayer is so important and I'm realizing that more each week. I really miss it when I can't attend."
Vi Rexford: "For me, the Wednesday night has been a great time of encouragement and blessing. I believe that prayer has to be a priority for Christian growth. The Wednesday night prayer group adds a special dimension to our active prayer chain and to daily private prayer. We would love to have you join us."
Wayne Rexford: "It is a good thing to come together with purpose to pray for us as individuals, for our children, for our church and for our country. Agreement is up lifting. Even if you come and don't pray, we are together in purpose."
Pam Shaw: "In a world where right is wrong and wrong is right and where darkness and evil are coming at us from every direction, prayer is the best weapon we have. As Christians, the need to go to our Heavenly Father in prayer is more critical than ever before.
Our Wednesday night prayer meeting has been a blessing in so many ways. It gives us a chance to come together as a group to not only pray together but to hear requests and praises. In the following days, those request and praises continue in my prayer times. Our Wednesday prayer meeting is not only uplifting, but time I treasure.
Recently, I read these words - Prayer means hope. Prayer means help. Prayer means relief. Prayer means power. And I believe those words are true.
Shirley Bearry: "You can stand on God's word and God's word tells us to pray unceasingly. I know it may be hard for some people to talk with the Lord, but where there is 2 or 3 that is gathered, the Holy Spirit is in the midst of them. Getting to talk with others and finding out they too have burdens and lift them up to the Lord, we stand on God's promises.
As Pastor Lance's previous sermon said, God works in mysterious ways... I completely believe on that... he gave us the choice to talk with him and talk with each other.
If we read Psalms and Proverbs every day we would be praising the Lord every day and Proverbs would be getting instruction.
If we are to carry one another's burdens, we never know each other's burdens until we share."
Gary Johnson: "I am so grateful for the Wednesday night prayer time at Emmett 1st Baptist. God is faithful to our prayers and the prayers are inspiration to share our concerns and petitions."

Blessings
So many of life's little blessings today
Will come unnoticed and slip away.
While we continue to grumble and fuss,
Ignoring the God who gave them to us.
How much happier our lives would be,
If instead of complaining, we'd stop to see
The numerous blessings He gives us each day,
Which lighten our burdens and brighten our way.

WALKING IN THE LIGHT
I grew up on a farm outside of Grace, Idaho. There was always something going on growing up, and we always found something fun to do. I was active in sports and did okay in school. Time flew by, and I was always looking forward to the next adventure.
When I was ten, my family and I moved, and things started to change. I found myself in a new group of friends, and I started getting rebellious.
By age 14, I was smoking pot, drinking alcohol, and skipping school; we thought it was cool to do stuff like that. I quickly started going down a dark path, which only got darker as I kept going.
It didn't take long to change me, and I lost interest in everything that was good for me.
Before I knew it, I was 18 with an alcohol addiction, and my high school class was graduating without me. I still remember the jail cell I was in. I was drunk, got in a fight, and got caught with drugs.
Instead of a graduation gown, I was given a prison jumpsuit.
You'd think that moment would have been a wake-up call for me, but it wasn't.
